Waco ISD Names Sherry Smith as Chief Financial Officer
Michael Anderson Jr

WACO, TX — Waco ISD is proud to announce the official appointment of Sherry C. Smith, C.P.A., as the district’s new Chief Financial Officer. Smith has served as the acting CFO since the retirement of Sheryl Davis in December 2025 and officially steps into the permanent role today.

Smith is a highly accomplished financial professional with over 35 years of experience in accounting and school district finance. She has been a cornerstone of the Waco ISD administrative team since 2005, most recently serving as the Executive Director of Finance since October 2021. In that capacity, she was responsible for overseeing accounting, purchasing, accounts payable, payroll, warehouse, and child nutrition departments for the entire district.

“Sherry’s extensive knowledge of school district operations and her proven leadership ability make her the ideal person to guide our financial future,” said Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Spicer. “Her objective has always been to apply her skill and experience to support the district's mission.”

Smith’s career at Waco ISD spans over two decades of dedicated service. Serving as the Executive Director of Finance, she managed the district’s external annual financial audits, invested district funds, and oversaw complex financial reporting. As the Director of Business Services, Smith ensured compliance with state and federal procurement laws and managed major departments including accounts receivable and district travel. Prior to that role, Smith served as Director of Purchasing and oversaw bond project purchases, including construction and professional services, while managing district contracts.

Before joining Waco ISD, Smith held leadership roles at Comal ISD and San Antonio ISD, where she was instrumental in establishing e-procurement systems and managing multi-million dollar budgets.

Notably, Smith has received the TASBO Purchasing Award of Merit every year since 2009.

Please join us in congratulating Sherry Smith on her well-deserved appointment as Chief Financial Officer!
